Freedom to Read OPEN MIC

February 21 to January 1, 2018

6-7:30 pm

Celebrate freedom of expression by reading a five-minute excerpt from your own work OR from a banned or censored book. Need ideas? We'll post them here! Every year, books in Canada are challenged for a variety of reasons. For a list of challenged books, visit Hosted by Janice Wililams. Freedom to Read Week is an annual event that encourages Canadians to think about and reaffirm their commitment to intellectual freedom, which is guaranteed them under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Freedom to Read Week is organized by the Freedom of Expression Committee of the Book and Periodical Council. Help us plan for a comfortable event by RSVP-ing: (604) 886-2130 (Gibsons Public Library) or email [email protected] or here on Facebook The Gibsons Public Library wishes to acknowledges that our events take place on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Squamish Nation. This event is open to individuals of all ages, genders, sexual orientations and cultural backgrounds. The library is wheelchair accessible. Questions?
