Freedom to Read: Vera Wabegijig and Ryan’s Well

March 4, 2017

12:00-1:30 and 2:00 -4:00

From 12:00-1:30, Ottawa based poet Vera Wabegijig will be offering a hands on poetry workshop for community members 8+ (adults welcome!) at the North Grenville Public Library (Kemptville). Participants will be encouraged to develop haiku and work with birch bark using approaches guided by the Seven Grandfather Teachings. She will be celebrating Freedom to Read Week through an awareness of the environments, people, species and cultures we engage with. At 2:00, Vera will be joined by organizers at Ryan's Well, a non-profit organization in Kemptville, which has been committed to supporting sustainable water and sanitation projects in communities globally; Ryan's Well is currently focusing on countries in three regions: East and West Africa, and Americas - through partnerships with community based groups or organizations, Ryan's Well enables water access awareness, well infrastructure, and community training. Water issues are a global issue, and tied to them are a variety of freedoms. Having access to water enables communities to take control over other aspects of their health; a well enables a community to focus on access to other things necessary for independence and survival. The website for Vera Wabegijig is here: Ryan's Well is here:
