Freedom to Read Week Book Displays and Activities

February 26 to March 4, 2017

Barrie Public Library will be participating in Freedom to Read Week by featuring a display of challenged graphic novels, as well as a display of challenged teen and adult books that have been wrapped to hide the title and author, and instead will display a one-word (and attention-grabbing) description of why the book was challenged. Examples include “smut”, “racist”, or “vulgar”. Inside the book will be a bookmark with details on the book's challenge, which the patron will get to keep. We will also have block puzzles with cut-up images of challenged books that patrons can complete to reveal the challenged book, and a display featuring images of children’s book covers that can be flipped over to reveal a description of the book, and why it was challenged.
