David Wyman wins prestigious Award for the Advancement of Intellectual Freedom in Canada
The Book and Periodical Council (BPC) is pleased to announce that the recipient for the 2005 Award for the Advancement of Intellectual Freedom in Canada is David Wyman. The Canadian Library Association, which confers the honour, recognizes Mr. Wyman’s outstanding contribution to the BPC’s annual “Freedom to Read Week.” Mr. Wyman has donated six poster designs to the campaign, and he continues to support freedom of expression issues in Canada.

Through this award, the Canadian Library Association honours outstanding contributions to intellectual freedom in Canada, typically by a librarian or library. The 2005 award recognizes Mr. Wyman, a graphic designer, because of his dedication in giving his time and talents to so worthy a cause. “We are grateful that David has been so liberal in donating his eloquent designs,” said Gabriele Lundeen, chair of the Freedom of Expression committee. “His posters say more than most speeches and letters and are invaluable in promoting Freedom to Read in libraries and schools across Canada. He exemplifies the many people who quietly work to promote intellectual freedom because they think it is important.”

The BPC joins the Canadian Library Association in congratulating Mr. Wyman on this achievement and thanking him for his years of creative contributions. We’re pleased to continue collaborating with Mr. Wyman on the 2006 “Freedom to Read Week” poster.
