Creating Library Services for Patrons with Undocumented & Precarious Immigration Status

February 27, 2025

10:30 AM – 12:00 PM PST

BCLA’s Multicultural Services Interest Group is excited to host a conversation about creating services and lowering barriers for patrons with irregular and undocumented immigration status. Maite Mayeta Cumba is a Community Librarian at the Burnaby Public Library. She will be sharing about her work connecting with and learning about the needs of community members in Burnaby with irregular status. Ingrid Mendez is the Executive Director at the Migrant Workers Centre BC and a long-time collective member of Sanctuary Health. Ingrid will share about her work advocating for access without fear policies in BC Libraries, and how to move similar initiatives forward in your library systems. The talk will be hosted by Emily Guerrero, current MSIG chair (and a Community Librarian at Burnaby Public Library.) Join us for online talks, with time after for the panel to discuss questions. Please pre-submit questions to Emily via email. (Note: there may be time for additional questions after the panel, but pre-submitting is encouraged!)
