Challenges in Canada
In April 2022, the Durham District School Board (DDSB) pulled The Great Bear and other titles from library and classroom shelves. While the DDSB claimed the book was flagged by Indigenous families for potentially harmful content, the board did not share any further details about the challenge.
Later that month, after an accelerated review that included consultation with the local Indigenous community, the book was recirculated.
